Frequently asked questions

1. How do I start a conversation with someone?
Once you've signed-up and confirmed your email address, you'll be able to find and send messages to other real people. You need to tell the TalkHear system about the things you're interested in by selecting up to 3 interests and 3 experiences. These interests and experiences can be changed at any time so don't worry about what you choose. The TalkHear system will then find and recommend other people to start a conversation with.

2. How do I stay anonymous?
We believe that great conversations happen because two people with similar thoughts, views and feelings meet. We don't believe that what you look like, your age, gender or location are important, and so while you can tell your conversation partner about who you are if you want, no one can find you based on these things.

3. What if someone is being unpleasant to me?
The TalkHear system does it's best to watch for instances of bullying and negative intent, however it's still quite young and has much still to learn about how humans interact. If the TalkHear system believes someone is bullying other people they will be removed from match results, however it is within your power to block and report them to the TalkHear team whereupon more direct action may be taken.

4. How will I know if someone has replied?
You will be sent an email when someone replies to your request to start a conversation. After that, you will receive an email whenever someone you are in a conversation with sends you a message. You will need to tell TalkHear that you do not want to be informed everytime a favourite conversation partner replies to you. You can do this by clicking the "Manage" button in the "Messages" page for each person you're talking to, and turn off the alerts for that conversation partner.

5. How will anyone find me?
People will find you and ask to start a conversation in the same way you find them. You will need to choose the interests and experiences you want to talk about by selecting appropriate ones on your "Settings" page.

6. Can I stay completely anonymous?
Yes you can. Unless you share your details with someone, they can never know who you are. The screen name protects your identity, but the TalkHear system ensures you cannot hide behind that anonymity to do harm to others.
